Miley Cyrus singing her new song

Miley Cyrus singing her new song: Miley Cyrus’ new video for her hit song ‘Who Owns My Heart’ is causing an uproar amongst parents advocacy groups, as well as on various sites all across the blogosphere. Parents Television Council is apparently ‘condemning the sexualized nature’ of her video where she is seen in underwear, blindfolded, writhing on a bed, going to clubs, etc.

Miley Cyrus singing her new song

Though Cyrus seems to be riding on the coattails of the ’slut wave’ that her forefathers (foremothers?) paved before her (eg. Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera) by consecutively showing more and more skin with each passing second, in actuality, Cyrus is creating art, and growing into an avant-garde transcendent state that will pioneer the next generation of creative expression.  I mean to show this by analyzing and commenting on the lyrics to this controversial song, ‘Who Owns My Heart.

Lyrics to Miley Cyrus’ hit song, ‘Who owns my heart’.
With intimate commentary by Thad Higa in the [barracks].

[song begins with thick beat, so electro. Feels almost like my heartbeat, like it's pumping life into me. Also it makes me feel so sexy. Miley are you trying to tell me something?]

R-O-C-K
Mafia

[Yup, I was right. Miley was trying to tell me something. Just listen to the way she whispers those letters. She wants to rock--with me. But also, perhaps, with mafia? Miley, is Mafia a hot girl like you are? Does Mafia know how 2 R-O-C-K like u do? I don't know, Miley, I just think we are better as a duo.)

Creation shows me what to do
I'm dancing on the floor with you
And when you touch my hand
I go crazy
Yeah

['Creation' refers to the religious theories of the creation story.  So basically, 'God' tells Miley what to do.  And God is telling her to dance with me (Thad).  I touch her hand and I make her 'crazy'.  This seems plausible, but 'crazy' perhaps has two meanings here--either insane or possibly used as a slang term for phrase 'head over heels in love', via Herbert Lawrence's Contemplative Man.]

The music tells me what to feel
I like you now, but is it real?
By the time we say goodnight
I’ll know if this is right

['Music' is personified here, it is actually 'telling' Miley what to feel, as well as clouding her judgment. She implies that music is an evil influence, and this matches the dark, sexy quality of the song. Genius. She thus questions what is real or not, speaking of her 'like' for me (Thad). There is conflict and intense struggle here, but Miley finds comfort in the knowledge that by the time we're both good and drunk way past midnight, she will know the truth--that we were 'meant 2 b'.]And I feel you
Comin’ through my veins
Am I into you?
Or is the music to blame?

[At this point, it seems to Miley that I am literally inside of her veins.  Veins carry blood to the heart, while arteries carry blood away from the heart.  Basically, I am traveling to her heart, I am her blood now, the life that sustains her.  Miley cannot live without me.  She now questions if I am into her, or if we are just 'so in love cause the music is so bumpin'. This is the classic insecurity question of couples who have unbalanced affection for one another. One person always likes the other more, but luckily, this is not the case with Miley and I (Thad).  Not sure if the music is to blame because the beats magically hidden in song at this point seem extra sexy.]

Chorus:
Who owns my heart?
Is it love?
Or is it art?
Cause the way you got your body movin’s
Got me confused
I can’t tell if it’s the beat or sparks
(Oh)
Who owns my heart?
Is it love?
Or is it art?
Y-Y-Y-You know I wanna believe
That we’re a masterpiece
But sometimes it’s hard to tell in the dark
Who owns my heart?

[This is the juice right here. The bad influence of music leads Miley to question who her heart belongs to.  She thought that I was in her viens, but no--maybe not. Who owns Miley's heart? Is it love for me (Thad), or does 'art' own her heart? At this point, not only is the music confusing Miley, but also my dancing is confusing her.  'I can't tell if it's the beat or the sparks,' she sings.  It seems that, in her mind, I am becoming the music.  Then she questions, maybe Miley plus me (Thad) is 'masterpiece', aka, 'art'.  She's so confused at this point.  Times are really dark here, as Miley repeats her former question, 'who owns my heart', as if to point out that this question is really getting her down. The room is full but all I see is
The way your eyes just blaze through me
Like fire in the dark
We're like living art

[The dark times are over now, because Miley has found a fire in me (Thad). My eyes 'blaze' through her, and times are no longer dark because I am destroying the darkness with my fire eyes. After this connection, we undoubtedly become 'art'. There seem to be no more questions about the issue of 'heart or art' because the two are now one.]

And it hits me
Like a tidal wave
Are you feelin me?
Or is the music to blame?

Chorus

[Wait, what? Miley I thought we were past this already. I thought we made something 2gether, but you are back to these doubts again. I am 'feeling you' Miley, you know that.  Also Miley, not sure what 'it' is referring to in the first line of this stanza.  And I am not sure why you are blaming the music again.  Seems like maybe you are the problem yet you choose to shove the blame on others.]

So come on baby
Keep provoking me
Keep on roping me
Like a rodeo
Baby pull me close
Come on here we go
Here we go
Here we go

[It makes sense now. Although Miley does refer to me (Thad) as 'baby', which is an intimate term commonly used between two lovers, in the end she wants to keep her distance because it 'turns her on' to feel like she is in a 'rodeo'. Basically, she just wants to be back in the south, and wants someone who can take her back to her fondest memories of childhood, when she would run around roping cattle with her old papa Cyrus, when she had no worries, no responsibilities. She wants me to 'pull her close' like one would do to a cow on a ranch, but I can't do it anymore. I have 2 start thinking about my own future, because in reality I am no farm boy. I am just a simple city-slicker.]

And it hits me
Like a tidal wave
Are you feelin me?
Or is the music to blame?

Chorus

Who owns my heart?
Who owns my heart?
Heart, heart, heart, heart…

[She repeats the main questions, emphasizing the over-arching theme of questioning who her heart belongs to.  Then Miley changes things up, just repeating the word 'heart', over and over, as if to mimic a real live beating heart.  But the beating heart is fading off, and eventually stops, just as the song does.  This symbolizes the fact that if Miley doesn't find the answer(s) to this main question of her life, she will eventually die like the song has died.]

Hope you’re alright Miley. Hope life is not ‘getting you down’ 2 much. Hope we can still be friends even though our relationship is over.  Don’t blame the ‘music’ Miley. Stay true 2 your art, Miley.  You R-O-C-K.  I think I have proven my point.  MILEY CYRUS = ART!

Love,

Thad (aka ArtIsMaiGAWD, aka CareBare4eva, aka LoveUrheartArt15, aka ‘me’) Higa
