Miley Cyrus New Song The Last Song: This week's two biggest releases are geared towards kids, so they'll be helpful if anyone in your family is about to hit the back-to-school blues. Distract teens with "The Last Song" (PG, $29.99), a mild Nicholas Sparks  romance starring Miley Cyrus as an aspiring pianist who spends a life-changing summer at the beach.

Younger children may enjoy the frantic antics of "Furry Vengeance" (PG, $22.99), in which woodland animals try to protect their forest from corporate developers. Just be sure everyone approaches Brendan Fraser's latest family comedy with appropriately low expectations: it's currently ranked as one of the 100 worst movies of all time.

For something a bit more intellectual, consider the Merchant/Ivory drama "The City of Your Final Destination" (PG-13, $24.98), in which Laura Linney and Anthony Hopkins spend empty days inside their dusty South American mansion. An intriguing cast list ups the interest factor for the crime thriller "Dead Man Running" (R, $29.99) — after all, how often will you find Brenda Blethyn and 50 Cent in the same movie? And we'll watch anything written and directed by "The Office" masterminds Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, even if their 1970s-set comedy, "Cemetery Junction" (R, $24.96), did go straight to DVD.

There are also several TV titles of note, including the first year of Courteney Cox's "Cougar Town" (NR, $39.99) and the fourth seasons of "Dexter" (NR, $49.99), "Ugly Betty" (NR, $39.99), and "Friday Night Lights" (NR, $29.98).

Finally, you may want to watch the HBO biography "Temple Grandin" (NR, $26.98) before the Emmys air later this month: with fifteen nominations—including one for lead Claire Danes, as the titular scientist--it's bound to come out a winner.
